Specialist Orthodontics

Improve the appearance and function of your smile using one of our discreet teeth alignment systems.

The Orthodontic Treatment You Need

Your teeth may be healthy, but perhaps they aren’t as straight as they could be. At The Nightingale Clinic, you can expect a smile transformation using top-of-the-line orthodontic techniques, leading industry technology and a comfortable treatment atmosphere. We pride ourselves in giving patients the smiles they’ve always wanted and now it’s easier than ever to get a straighter smile.

The Benefits of Straighter Teeth

The most common reason patients undergo orthodontic treatment is to improve their confidence about how they look and feel. It’s been shown that straighter teeth boost self-esteem, increase confidence and also improve career prospects.

Aside from the enhanced aesthetic and self-confidence, straighter teeth are also better for your oral health. Teeth that are crooked, crowded or significantly overlap are more difficult to keep clean. Straighter teeth are at less risk of gum disease and tooth decay, as they are easier to clean.

Eating can be an issue for patients with a gap between their front teeth or those with an improper bite. Braces correct how teeth bite together, making it easier to bite and chew food.

Orthodontist: A Dentist with Specialist Qualifications

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry, where qualified dentists take an additional three years of study that focuses on the face teeth and jaws. An orthodontist diagnoses, prevents and treats dental and facial irregularities.

During their studies, orthodontists study safe tooth movement, guidance of dental, jaw and facial development, maxillofacial surgery, restorative dentistry, paediatric dentistry and more. These extra years of education make orthodontists specialists in moving teeth and aligning jaws.

Specialist Orthodontic Treatments

We will recommend specialised orthodontic treatments to our patients with alignment or placement issues, including:
  • Teeth that are crowded
  • Large gaps between teeth
  • Teeth that meet abnormally (or don’t meet at all)
  • Overbites and underbites
  • And more
The orthodontist can identify alignment issues, treat existing problems and implement a treatment plan to resolve issues before they develop further. We treat orthodontic issues in patients of all ages, from children to adults.

A Bespoke Treatment Plan with Beautiful Results at Any Age

Every patient we see has different orthodontic issues, which cannot be addressed with a one-size-fits-all approach. Before your treatment begins, we gather as much information as possible about your teeth and gums. Based on the assessment and the projected movements your teeth need to make, the orthodontist can recommend the most appropriate appliance to deliver the results you’re after.

Any patient, at any age, can be a suitable candidate for orthodontic treatment. The only requirements prior to treatment are clean, disease-free teeth and healthy gums. It’s never too late to improve the aesthetic and function of your smile.

Will other dental treatments limit my orthodontic treatment options?

First and foremost, patients must have healthy teeth and gums to receive orthodontic treatment. If you have had fillings, crowns, root canal treatments or even implants in the past, you can still receive brace treatment — although, your implants can’t move with the rest of your teeth.

We can use a special adhesive to bond metal or clear braces to crowns, but please be aware that there is a small risk of damage upon removal. If damage to a crown or veneer is a concern of yours, we often recommend Invisalign to straighten teeth.

Will braces affect my speech?

Braces fixed to the outside of your teeth will not affect your speech whatsoever.

Invisalign patients often have speech issues for the first few weeks as you learn how to enunciate with the aligner in your mouth. Patients usually fully adapt within two weeks and will be back to speaking the same as before. Should you have an important event or meeting that requires precise articulation, remove the aligner and replace it afterward.

Types of Orthodontic Treatments Available

With more orthodontic treatment options on the market than ever before, we’re seeing an increasing number of adults come visit us for orthodontic consultations. Now that tooth straightening appliances are less noticeable, more patients are getting the orthodontic treatment they’ve been avoiding.
At The Nightingale Clinic, we offer a wide variety of private dentistry orthodontic treatments, with each offering advantages over traditional metal fixed braces. We advise our private patients on the benefits of each brace system and discuss which straightening solution is best suited to your individual needs.

Invisalign

Using a series of clear plastic aligner trays, these removable appliances are virtually invisible. Instead of traditional braces that need to be adjusted every couple of weeks, Invisalign users switch to the next tray in the sequence at regular intervals. The big perk with this aligner system is that they can be taken out for eating, drinking or cleaning.
How Does Invisalign Work?
At your initial appointment, we use the iTero Element scanner to take a fast, precise 3D digital scan of your teeth. The device enables us to map out your personalised treatment plan and give you a sneak peek at your new smile with its powerful smile simulator. If you like what you see, we order your hand-finished, custom aligners. They are delivered to the practice and treatment is as simple as:
  1. wearing your aligners;
  2. coming back to the practice every 6 to 8 weeks to track your progress, make any adjustments and collect your next batch of aligners; and
  3. maintaining your usual routine, only taking your aligners out to eat and clean your teeth.
See Potential Results Before Starting Treatment
Invisalign helps you visualise what you would look like with perfectly straight teeth. You can check out your new smile by uploading a selfie to the SmileView tool. In less than a minute, you can see the possible results you can get by using Invisalign.
Treatment Duration and Aftercare

The length of Invisalign treatment varies depending on the complexity of your case. Typically, treatments range between 6 and 24 months, but patients start noticing results in a matter of weeks.

Once you have completed your series of aligner trays, make sure your brand-new smile stays in place. Prevent your teeth from migrating back to where they started with a Vivera retainer. These retainers are custom-made and 30 percent stronger than other available retainers on the market. You wear the retainer at night to keep your teeth right where they are.

ICE Clear Braces

ICE clear braces are made with a unique material and by a process that produces crystal clear brackets that blend with your natural tooth colour. Some other types of braces claim to be clear, but they are actually white and less transparent — which only makes them stand out more.

As ICE brackets are translucent, they virtually disappear regardless of tooth shade. As an added perk, they won’t stain or discolour over time, helping them look more discreet throughout treatment.
Why Choose ICE Brackets?

ICE clear braces are suited for patients with a complex bite, severely crowded jaws or top teeth that are much further ahead than the bottom teeth. In some instances, healthy teeth may need to be removed as part of this orthodontic treatment. Invisalign is not always suitable for patients who require teeth to be removed, however, ICE clear braces provide a discreet, aesthetic option for patients who require more complex treatment.

These clear braces work 24/7 toward creating your perfect smile. If you feel that removable aligners and their maintenance would be an inconvenience, consider ICE clear braces for your treatment journey.

Though typically translucent, ICE brackets have a fun side too. If classically clear braces are too plain for your personality, express yourself with our wide variety of colours.

Damon Braces

Damon Braces use a patented slide mechanism to connect the wires to the bracket whilst allowing the wire to move freely. The benefit to patients is that this design reduces friction and improves oral hygiene by eliminating elastic ties. Traditional braces are known for using elastic ties, but the friction from them can slow treatment and can collect damaging bacteria if they are not cleaned properly.
The Damon System comes in both metal and clear designs, fitting the aesthetic needs for many patients. Whether you choose traditional or clear, the result will be the same — an amazing, straighter smile.
The Damon Smile
Damon Braces give you a broader smile in less time and with greater comfort than conventional braces. The broad arch provides facial support and reduces dark triangles at the mouth’s corners, giving you a fuller smile that shows more teeth and fully fills out the corners of the mouth. The result of the Damn Smile is a natural and appealing result.
The Benefits of Damon Braces
Though there are plenty of benefits to the Damon Brace System, the top four advantages for this orthodontic treatment are:
  1. More hygienic than traditional braces, as food is less likely to be trapped between the brackets or on elastic ties.
  2. Technology that offers light, gentle force to move teeth more comfortably.
  3. Reduced need for elastic ties, thanks to the patented slide mechanism.
  4. Fewer tooth extractors or expanders as the Damon Braces create a broader smile, which may help avoid extractions.

What to Expect as a Private Patient

We offer both NHS and private patients a gold standard of care. As a private patient, you are given some advantages, which include:
Less Waiting

Unlike the NHS, private treatments do not have a waiting list. Once you have had your initial consultation and a treatment plan has been agreed upon, treatment can start immediately.

Flexible Appointment Times

Private patients have the option of visiting the practice for appointments before school or after work. We have later opening hours exclusively available for patients undertaking private dental treatment.

More Frequent Appointments

Private patients are scheduled much more frequently than those undergoing NHS dental treatment. The more often we see you, the faster your treatment will progress and the sooner your new smile will be ready to show off.

Orthodontic Treatments Create Winning Smiles

It’s never too late to get a straighter smile. Whether you’re a child, teen or adult, we have the orthodontic solution for you. While you’re at it, why not go the extra mile and plan to have your teeth whitened too? Brace treatment can be supplemented easily with one of our at-home whitening kits — which is included at no additional cost for our Invisalign patients.
